On Saturday June 8th at Our Mother of Good Counsel Parish in Los Angeles, the Province of St. Augustine in California was honored to witness the ordination of four brothers to the Orders of Priesthood and the Diaconate.

Fr. Nicholas Porter, OSA, was ordained to the Priesthood by Bishop Dan Turley, OSA, who is the Bishop of Chulucanas, Peru.  Those ordained to the Diaconate were Barnaby Johns, OSA, Adnan Ghani, OSA, and Sarfraz, Alam, OSA.

 In his homily, Bishop Turley pleaded with the ordinands and urged them to follow the example of Christ- who continually pours out his abundant love upon his people.  Christ is, he said, is to be followed wholeheartedly through the ministries in which they were being ordained.  Bishop Turley also thanked the families and friends of the ordinands for supporting them in their vocations.

 Fr. Nicholas is currently pursuing doctoral studies in philosophy at Boston College, and he will continue his studies in the fall.  The three new deacons have varied ministries.  Deacon Barnaby serves at Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai, CA as a teacher and campus minister.  Deacon Adnan will be completing Clinical Pastoral Education in San Diego this fall, making him a fully certified hospital chaplain.  Lastly, Deacon Sarfraz will be completing his Scriptural studies at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago in the coming school year.

 The varied ministries and places of residence among the four friars reflect how Augustinian formation is geared towards a philosophy of "one size fits one."  The skills and God given talents of each of the brothers is reflected in the ministries and studies in which they are involved.
